2016 Lexus IS 200t Earns Five-Star Safety Rating From Federal Government

WASHINGTON — The new 2016 Lexus IS 200t luxury sport sedan earned the highest five-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

On sale now at Lexus dealerships, the 2016 IS 200t received four stars in the front crash test and five stars in the side and rollover crash tests.

The new IS 200t is available as a rear-wheel-drive model only.

Other models in the 2016 IS lineup include the IS 300 AWD or all-wheel-drive model and the IS 350. They also earned the highest five-star overall safety rating.

The IS 250 and IS 250 AWD are discontinued.

Standard safety equipment on all 2016 IS vehicles includes 10 airbags, antilock brakes, traction control and vehicle stability control.

Optional safety equipment includes a pre-collision system with dynamic radar cruise control and a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert.

The 2016 Lexus IS 350 has been partially rated by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, receiving "good" scores in the side and moderate overlap front crash test. The forces in the test are similar to those that would result from a frontal offset crash between two vehicles of the same weight, each going just under 40 mph.

Key Lexus IS competitors include the Audi A4, BMW 3 Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class.

Edmunds says: Car shoppers keeping score should note that the 2016 Audi A4, BMW 3 Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class also earned the highest five-star overall safety rating from NHTSA.
