MAHWAH, New Jersey — The 2016 Land Rover Discovery Sport premium compact SUV will be available for up to seven passengers, Jaguar Land Rover said on Tuesday.
The Discovery Sport, which the company is pitching as a family-friendly vehicle, will offer a 5+2 seating configuration.

"The Discovery Sport will feature optional 5+2 seating, offering a spacious load space and configurable seating, while still retaining a more compact footprint than traditional five-seat SUVs," said Gerry McGovern, Land Rover design director and chief creative officer, in a statement.
The Discovery Sport will arrive at dealerships in 2015. Pricing and other details have not been announced. The vehicle is in its final testing stages, the company said.
The new SUV will be patterned after the Land Rover Discovery Vision Concept. It is expected to replace the Land Rover LR2 and compete with the Audi Q5, BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class, among others.
Edmunds says: Families who will be in the market for a new SUV next year may want to put the 2016 Land Rover Discovery Sport on their shopping lists.
