MAHWAH, New Jersey — Jaguar Land Rover is offering another look at the 2016 Jaguar XE compact premium sport sedan ahead of an expected debut at the 2014 Paris Auto Show in September.

The latest teaser image gives prospective buyers a look at the car in profile, showing a family resemblance to the Jaguar XF sedan.

The Jaguar XE targets the Audi A4, BMW 3 Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class.

The XE will arrive at U.S. dealerships sometime in 2016. The automaker teased the front end of the car at the 2014 Geneva Auto Show.

This will be the first Jaguar product built on the company’s new aluminum architecture that was featured in the Jaguar C-X17 concept car in 2013.

Jaguar says the aluminum structure is light and strong, providing "exceptional handling, performance, refinement and efficiency."

Power will be provided by "a variety of engines" from the automaker's new Ingenium engine line. The flexible architecture fits longitudinal and transverse installations and can be used in rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations.

"The new Jaguar XE is every bit a modern Jaguar car, more compact in size, but visually striking," said Ian Callum, Jaguar design director, in a statement. "Customers will expect a great deal from a compact Jaguar car ? it must be practical but premium. We never forget we are designing a Jaguar car, and that means it must be as exciting to look at and drive as it is brilliant to run and practical to own."

Pricing has not been announced.

Edmunds says: Jaguar Land Rover is hoping to lure young buyers into showrooms with the affordable, fuel-efficient Jaguar XE.
