2016 Hyundai Sonata With Apple CarPlay Compatibility Available at Dealers Now

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, California — The 2016 Hyundai Sonata midsize sedan with Apple CarPlay compatibility is on sale now at Hyundai dealerships, Hyundai Motor America announced on Thursday.

There will be an announcement about CarPlay support on the 2016 Sonata Hybrid and Sonata Plug-in Hybrid at a "later date," Hyundai said.

"Hyundai will also have an announcement in the near future related to CarPlay support for existing 2015 Sonatas with navigation and 2016 Sonatas with display audio or navigation," the company said.

These updates require a specific version of the onboard navigation map and Hyundai said it is developing a solution, which will provide the map update and CarPlay support at no additional cost.

Apple CarPlay lets drivers make calls, get directions, listen to music and access music while cutting down on distraction.

CarPlay works with iPhone 5 and newer models running the iOS 7.1 or higher operating systems.

The Sonata targets the Ford Fusion, Honda Accord and Toyota Camry.

Apple bills CarPlay as the "ultimate copilot."

Apple said more than 100 vehicle models support CarPlay or will in the near future.

They include the 2017 Acura NSX, 2016 Cadillac CT6, 2016 Honda Civic, 2017 Ford Escape and 2016 Volvo XC90.

Edmunds says: April is Distracted Driving Awareness month. There's no better time to check out the 2016 Sonata with Apple CarPlay compatibility.
