2016 Hyundai Sonata Earns Five-Star Safety Rating From Federal Government

WASHINGTON — The 2016 Hyundai Sonata midsize sedan earned the highest five-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

On sale now at Hyundai dealerships, the mildly revised 2016 Sonata received five stars in the front and side crash tests and four stars in the rollover crash test.

The rating also applies to the 2016 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid.

Standard safety features on the carryover 2016 Sonata include antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability control and seven airbags, including a driver's knee airbag.

Automatic emergency braking is added on Sonata models previously equipped with forward-collision warning.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has not rated the 2016 Sonata, but the 2015 Sonata was named a 2015 Top Safety Pick.

Key Sonata rivals include the Ford Fusion, Honda Accord and Toyota Camry.

Edmunds says: Car shoppers keeping score should note that the 2016 Ford Fusion, Honda Accord and Toyota Camry also earned the highest five-star overall safety rating from NHTSA.
