2016 Honda CR-V Bound for Dealerships With New Special Edition Model

TORRANCE, California — The best-selling 2016 Honda CR-V crossover SUV is bound for Honda dealerships this fall with a new Special Edition or SE model priced at $25,275, including an $880 destination charge, American Honda Motor Co. announced on Tuesday.

The CR-V SE slots in above the base 2016 CR-V and adds larger 17-inch alloy wheels with an exclusive two-tone finish, second-row and rear privacy glass, and a security system.

"With only an $800 premium over the LX, the SE represents a high-value proposition for the premium look and additional feature content," American Honda Motor Co. said in a statement on Tuesday.

Car shoppers now have 12 CR-V trim levels to consider.

The base 2016 Honda CR-V starts at $24,475, including shipping, reflecting a $150 price increase over the base 2015 model.

The midlevel 2016 CR-V EX is priced at $26,725, including shipping, for a $300 price increase over the previous CR-V EX model.

The top-of-the-line 2016 Honda CR-V Touring with all-wheel drive starts at $34,125, including shipping, reflecting a $350 price increase over the 2015 model.

This is a carryover model that was significantly refreshed last year with a new powertrain and exterior and interior upgrades.

The 2016 CR-V is equipped with a 185-horsepower 2.4-liter inline four-cylinder engine linked to a continuously variable transmission.

Key CR-V competitors include the Ford Escape, Hyundai Santa Fe Sport, Mazda CX-5 and Toyota RAV4.

Edmunds says: The new CR-V Special Edition adds some spice to the 2016 CR-V lineup, something that should be another showroom draw for this popular crossover.
