DEARBORN, Michigan — Ford is recalling 708 2016 Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ sedans in North America because the fuel tank might crack in a crash, leading to a fuel leak and the risk of fire, the automaker said on Wednesday.
The fuel tanks might not have been manufactured properly.
Ford said it is not aware of any accidents, injuries or fires linked to the recall.
The affected 2016 Fusions were built from September 3 through September 13, 2015 at Ford's Hermosillo Assembly Plant. The affected MKZs were built from September 3 through September 12, 2015 at the Hermosillo Assembly Plant.
Ford dealers will replace the fuel tank. The recall is expected to begin the week of October 19. Owners can contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332.
No information about the recall has been posted on the website of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which oversees vehicle safety in the U.S.
Edmunds says: This recall will begin shortly, but if you own one of these cars and have an immediate concern, it's best to contact your Ford dealer now.
