2016 Ford Explorer Platinum Gets Starring Role in The X-Files

DEARBORN, Michigan — The 2016 Ford Explorer Platinum SUV will be featured in the six-episode series of The X-Files,  giving prospective buyers a look at the SUV in action.

"To be a part of an iconic television show that is so technology-centric is a perfect fit for Explorer — a vehicle loaded with driver-assist technology," said Ginger Kasanic, Ford SUV marketing manager, in a statement.

The Ford Escape SUV, Mustang coupe and a black Taurus sedan also will get starring automotive roles in the popular show as well.

On sale now at Ford dealerships, the Explorer Platinum will be showcased in a scene from the second night of the show's two-part premiere, which will air at 8 p.m. EST on Monday.

The high-end Explorer Platinum is equipped with a leather-wrapped interior, 500-watt Sony Audio System, enhanced active park assist, a lane-keeping system and rain-sensing wipers.

Key Explorer competitors include the Chevrolet Traverse, Honda Pilot and Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Edmunds says: Tech-minded car shoppers — and sci-fi buffs — will appreciate this appropriate bit of product placement.
