2016 Chevrolet Volt To Debut at 2015 Detroit Auto Show

DETROIT The redesigned 2016 Chevrolet Volt plug-in hybrid will debut at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show, GM confirmed on Thursday.

"The 2016 Volt will build on the award-winning original's strong foundation of technology innovation," the automaker said in a statement posted on its Web site.

Chevy posted a single image of the 2016 Volt, showing just a portion of the rear deck.

No more details about the next-generation Volt, including launch timing and pricing, were revealed.

Volt sales were up 13 percent in July and more than 65,000 have been sold since it was introduced.

"In the 2013 calendar year, nearly seven of 10 new Volt buyers traded in a non-GM vehicle, the majority of which were Toyota Priuses," GM noted.

The Volt will continue to be built at GM's Detroit-Hamtramck assembly plant.

Key competitors to the Volt include the 2014 Ford C-Max Energi, the outgoing 2014 Honda Fit EV, 2015 Nissan Leaf and 2014 Toyota Prius plug-in hybrid.

Edmunds says: The 2016 Chevrolet Volt is destined to be one of the standouts at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show. It will be interesting to watch how GM ups the tech ante with the redesign.
