2016 Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid Priced at $28,645

DETROIT — The all-new 2016 Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid will arrive at Chevrolet dealerships this spring with a price tag of $28,645, General Motors announced on Thursday.

Pricing includes an $875 destination charge.

Buyers will pay $6,145 more for the Malibu Hybrid, compared to the base 2016 Malibu. The base Malibu is priced at $22,500, including shipping.

The next-generation Malibu Hybrid features a new direct-injection 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine mated to a two-motor electric-drive system derived from the 2016 Chevrolet Volt plug-in hybrid.

The EPA has not rated the 2016 Malibu Hybrid, but GM said it delivers an estimated 48 mpg in city driving and 45 mpg on the highway.

Gas prices continue to hover around the $2-a-gallon mark. The AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report on Friday pegged the average price for a gallon of unleaded gasoline at $2.01, versus $2.62 a year ago.

The Malibu Hybrid is equipped with a standard Chevrolet MyLink radio with a 7-inch color touchscreen and a rearview camera.

Other standard equipment includes 10 airbags, cruise control and pushbutton start.

Competitors to the Malibu Hybrid include hybrid versions of such midsize sedans as the Ford Fusion, Honda Accord, Hyundai Sonata and Toyota Camry.
