2016 Chevrolet Malibu Earns Five-Star Safety Rating From Federal Government

WASHINGTON — The 2016 Chevrolet Malibu midsize sedan earned the highest five-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

On sale now at Chevrolet dealerships, the 2016 Malibu received five stars in the front and side crash tests and four stars in the rollover crash test.

The 2016 Malibu has been partially rated by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, receiving "good" scores in the side and moderate overlap front crash tests.

The forces in the moderate overlap front test are similar to those that would result from a frontal offset crash between two vehicles of the same weight, each going just under 40 mph.

Standard equipment on the 2016 Malibu includes antilock brakes, stability control, traction control and 10 airbags. A rearview camera system is standard on LS, LT, Hybrid and Premier models.

Optional safety equipment includes new forward-collision alert, rear cross-traffic alert and new lane-keep assist and lane-departure warning.

Key Malibu competitors include the Ford Fusion, Honda Accord, Hyundai Sonata and Toyota Camry.

Edmunds says: Car shoppers keeping score should note that the 2016 Ford Fusion, Honda Accord, Hyundai Sonata and Toyota Camry also earned the highest five-star overall safety rating from NHTSA.
