DETROIT — The 2016 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 C7.R Edition coupe and convertible, a road-legal homage to Corvette Racing C7.R racecars, debuted on Friday, as Chevrolet announced details about the 2016 Chevrolet Corvette lineup.
"We will announce pricing and begin taking orders in May with cars arriving in dealerships in late summer," said Monte Doran, a Chevrolet spokesman, in response to a query from Edmunds.
The new Z06 C7.R Edition is limited to a production run of just 500 units. All will include the Z07 Performance package with carbon-ceramic brakes and a serialized vehicle identification number.
The special model "advances Chevrolet's plan to offer special-edition models that offer a unique, personal ownership experience," said Harlan Charles, Corvette product and marketing manager, in a statement.
Exterior colors include Corvette Racing Yellow Tintcoat, a new color for 2016.
Other details include yellow brake calipers, a carbon-fiber ground-effects package and a Jet Black leather interior.
The Z07 Performance package also includes adjustable front-and-rear aero components and Michelin Pilot Super Sport Cup 2 tires.
"The Z07 Performance package enhances overall performance to make the Corvette Z06 one of the most track-capable cars you can buy off the dealership floor and still drive it to work every day," said Charles.
Chevrolet is also rolling out three new color-themed design packages for the Z06. They are Twilight Blue, Spice Black and Jet Black Suede. The packages provide Z06s with a "custom-tailored appearance," Chevrolet said.
Other updates for the 2016 Z06 include an optional front curb view parking camera, MyLink connectivity enhancements with smartphone projection technology and a power-cinching hatch/trunk latch.
In addition, the Z06 gets a new chrome stop-start button, a new "Blade" accessory wheel and optional two-tone GT seats in red or gray.
Edmunds says: With a superstar like the 2016 Corvette Z06 C7.R Edition, Chevrolet buyers will feel right at home on the street or the track.
