2016 Audi A6, S6 Earn Five-Star Safety Rating From Federal Government

WASHINGTON — The updated 2016 Audi A6 midsize luxury sedan earned the top five-star safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Audi's 2016 A6 received five stars in the front, side and rollover crash tests.

The rating applies to front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive versions of the 2016 A6, which is on sale now at Audi dealerships.

The rating also applies to the sporty 2016 Audi S6.

Standard safety equipment on the 2016 A6 includes eight airbags — driver- and front-passenger knee airbags — along with electronic stability control and antilock brakes. Optional safety features include an improved active lane assist, automatic emergency braking and night vision.

The 2016 A6 earned the 2015 Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, receiving "good" scores in all Institute crash tests.

Key competitors to the A6 include the BMW 5 Series, Lexus GS and Mercedes-Benz E-Class sedans.

Edmunds says: Car shoppers should note that the 2015 BMW 5 Series earned the top five-star overall safety rating from NHTSA. The 2015 Lexus GS has not been rated. The 2015 Mercedes-Benz E-Class earned a four-star overall safety rating.
