2016 Audi A4 Earns Five-Star Safety Rating From Federal Government

WASHINGTON — The 2016 Audi A4 entry-level luxury sedan earned the highest five-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

On sale now at Audi dealerships, the 2016 A4 received five stars in the front, side and rollover crash tests.

The rating applies to front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive versions of the car.

The rating also applies to the 2016 Audi S4 performance sedan.

The 2016 Audi A4 comes standard with antilock brakes, stability and traction control, front side airbags and side curtain airbags.

A blind-spot warning system, rear parking sensors and a rearview camera are optional on the Premium Plus via the Technology package, while the S line Competition package adds front parking sensors. Rear seat airbags are optional on every 2016 A4.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety said the 2016 A4 received "good" scores in its crash tests, but a "poor" score in the small overlap front crash test. The test is designed to replicate what happens when the front corner of a vehicle collides with another vehicle or an object like a tree or utility pole

Key A4 competitors include the BMW 3 Series, Cadillac ATS and Mercedes-Benz C-Class.

Edmunds says: Car shoppers keeping score should note that the 2016 BMW 3 Series, Cadillac ATS and Mercedes-Benz C-Class also earned the highest five-star safety rating from NHTSA.
