2016 Audi A3 Earns Five-Star Safety Rating From Federal Government

WASHINGTON — The 2016 Audi A3 compact sedan earned the highest five-star safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

On sale now at Audi dealerships, the 2016 A3 received four stars in the front crash test, five stars in the side crash test and four stars in the rollover crash test.

The rating applies to front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive versions of the A3 sedan.

It also applies to the performance-oriented 2016 Audi S3 compact sedan.

The 2016 Audi A3 Sportback e-tron hatchback and the 2016 A3 Cabriolet convertible have not been rated by NHTSA.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety named the 2016 A3 as a 2016 Top Safety Pick+ award winner. The A3 received "good" scores in all Institute crash tests.

Every 2016 Audi A3 comes standard with antilock brakes, stability and traction control, front knee airbags, front side airbags, full-length side curtain airbags, front-and-rear parking sensors, a rearview camera and automatic seatbelt tightening and window closing (Audi Pre Sense Basic) in the case of a potential frontal collision. Rear side airbags are optional.

Key A3 competitors include the Acura ILX, Buick Verano and Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class.

Edmunds says: Car shoppers keeping score should note that the 2016 Acura ILX and Buick Verano also earned the highest five-star safety rating from NHTSA. The 2016 Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class has not been rated.
