The 2016 RLX, which is on sale now at Acura dealerships, earned a perfect score from NHTSA.
It received five stars in the front, side and rollover crash tests.
The rating applies to the 2016 RLX and 2016 Acura RLX Sport Hybrid.
Standard safety equipment on the RLX includes seven airbags, including a driver's knee airbag, along with a rearview camera, vehicle stability assist with traction control and antilock brakes. Optional safety equipment includes a collision mitigation braking system and a blind-spot monitor system.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has not rated the 2016 RLX, which is a carryover vehicle. The 2015 Acura RLX earned the 2015 Top Safety Pick+ award from the Institute, earning "good" scores in all crash tests.
Edmunds says: Car shoppers should note that the 2016 Audi A6 earned the top five-star safety rating from NHTSA. The 2015 Hyundai Genesis sedan and 2015 Lincoln MKS also earned the top five-star safety rating from NHTSA.
