WASHINGTON — The 2015 Volkswagen Passat midsize sedan earned the top five-star safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The Passat received five stars in the front and side crash tests and four stars in the rollover crash test.

The 2015 Passat is on sale now at VW dealerships.

Standard safety equipment on the 2015 Passant includes electronic stability control, antilock brakes, hydraulic brake assist and Intelligent Crash Response system. In the event of a crash, this system automatically unlocks the doors, shuts off the fuel pump and turns on the hazard warning lights.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has not rated the 2015 Passat.

The Passat competes with the Ford Fusion, Honda Accord, Kia Optima and Mazda 6.
