HERNDON, Virginia — The new 2015 Volkswagen Golf R high-performance hatchback, the fastest and most powerful Golf to be sold in the U.S. market, starts at $37,415, including an $820 destination charge.
VW's uplevel Golf R with the DCC adaptive damping system and a navigation system starts at $39,910, including shipping.

Base Golf R standard features include heated front seats, Bluetooth, and dual-zone automatic air-conditioning. The Golf R with DCC and navigation adds the DCC adaptive damping system, 19-inch wheels, Fender premium audio system and front and rear Park Distance Control.
The first 500 Golf R models can be pre-ordered at VW.com. They will be available with an exclusive numbered R Accessories kit.
Volkswagen's Golf R is equipped with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that delivers 292 horsepower.
The car's six-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission offers a launch-control feature, enabling the car to sprint from zero to 60 mph in 4.9 seconds. The top track speed is 155 mph.
Edmunds says: A substantial sum for a VW hatchback, regardless of performance level, but one that should not deter true enthusiasts.
