WASHINGTON The 2015 Toyota Highlander SUV earned the top five-star safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The 2015 Highlander received four stars in the front crash test, five stars in the side crash test and four stars in the rollover crash test.

The rating applies to front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive versions of the 2015 Highlander and the 2015 Toyota Highlander Hybrid.

The 2015 Highlander is on sale now at Toyota dealerships.

Standard safety equipment on the 2015 Highlander includes eight airbags, vehicle stability control, traction control, antilock brakes, a rearview camera and hill-start assist control.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has not rated the 2015 Highlander.

Key competitors to the Highlander include the Chevrolet Traverse, Ford Explorer and Nissan Pathfinder.

Edmunds says: Car shoppers in this segment should note that the 2015 Chevrolet Traverse and Ford Explorer also earned the top five-star overall safety rating from NHTSA. The 2015 Nissan Pathfinder has not been rated.
