WASHINGTON — The 2015 Toyota 4Runner SUV earned a four-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The 2015 4Runner received four stars in the front crash test, five stars in the side crash test and three stars in the rollover crash test.

The rating applies to two-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive versions of the 4Runner.

Five stars is the highest rating.

Standard safety equipment on the 2015 4Runner includes six airbags, vehicle stability control, traction control, antilock brakes, brake assist and smart-stop technology.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has not rated the 2015 4Runner.

Competitors to the 4Runner include the Dodge Durango, Ford Explorer and Jeep Wrangler.

Edmunds says: Car shoppers should note that the 2015 Ford Explorer earned the top five-star safety rating from NHTSA. The 2015 Dodge Durango and 2015 Jeep Wrangler have not been rated.
