2015 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel Production Increases To Meet "Overwhelming" Consumer Demand

AUBURN HILLS, Michigan Production of the 2015 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel pickup truck is getting a big boost, due to what Chrysler says is "overwhelming" consumer demand.

Ram 1500 trucks with the 3.0-liter V6 diesel engine will increase to 20 percent of total Ram 1500 production volume, double the initial expectation.

"Customers will have easier access to getting their hands on the Ram with the diesel powertrain," said Nick Cappa, a Chrysler spokesman, in a phone conversation with Edmunds.

Cappa said that Ram 1500 EcoDiesel trucks sit on dealer lots an average of 12 days. That means almost as soon as they come in the lot, they go out the door.

The 2015 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel is on sale now.

Buyers are snapping up the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel because it carries the industry's highest EPA highway rating for pickup trucks. The 2014 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel delivers 28 mpg on the highway, the top rating for any pickup in the U.S., according to the EPA.

The diesel-powered Ram became a favorite with truck buyers from the start.

"When the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel opened for orders earlier this year, Ram truck received more than 8,000 requests within three days, which quickly filled the initial allocation for the exclusive powertrain," said Chrysler in a statement.

Key competitors to the Ram 1500 include the Chevrolet Silverado, Ford F-150, Nissan Titan and Toyota Tundra.
