NASHVILLE, Tennessee The 2015 Nissan Leaf electric car starts at $29,860, including an $850 destination charge, reflecting a $30 price increase over the 2014 model.

The top-of-the-line 2015 Nissan Leaf starts at $35,970, including shipping.

Nissan said production of the 2015 Leaf will begin in August at Nissan's Smyrna, Tennessee assembly plant, with the car arriving at dealerships later this summer.

Pricing does not include federal or state tax credits.

The 2015 Leaf is a carryover vehicle. Upgrades for 2015 include a new Morning Sky Blue exterior color that will be available later in the model year.

Hands-free text messaging assistant and voice destination entry are featured on SV and SL grades of the car. New standard 17-inch aluminum alloy wheels will be available on the SV grade later in the model year.

The base Leaf S model receives a standard "B-Mode," which engages regenerative braking more aggressively while decelerating, the company said.

Options include $130 hologram kick plates and $395 Pearl White exterior paint. A charge package adds another $1,770 to the bottom line.

Key competitors to the Leaf include the 2014-'15 Chevrolet Volt, Ford Focus Electric and Toyota Prius.

Edmunds says: Pricing on the 2015 Nissan Leaf is virtually unchanged, which is good news for car shoppers seeking an alt-fuel vehicle.
