2015 Mitsubishi Lancer Earns Four-Star Safety Rating From Federal Government

WASHINGTON — The 2015 Mitsubishi Lancer sedan earned a four-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Five stars is the highest rating.

On sale now at Mitsubishi dealerships, the 2015 Lancer received four stars in the front and side crash tests and five stars in the rollover crash test.

The rating applies to front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive versions of the 2015 Lancer.

The 2015 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution has not been rated.

Standard safety equipment includes seven airbags, including a driver's knee airbag, antilock brakes, electronic stability control and traction control.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety rated the 2015 Lancer as a 2015 Top Safety Pick.

The 2015 Lancer scored an "acceptable" rating in the small overlap front crash test and "good" ratings in all other crash tests. The small overlap front crash test replicates what happens when the front corner of a vehicle collides with another vehicle or an object like a tree or utility pole.

Key competitors to the Lancer include the Chevrolet Cruze, Ford Focus, Honda Civic, Nissan Sentra and Toyota Corolla.

Edmunds says: Car shoppers in this crowded segment should be aware that the 2015 Chevrolet Cruze, Honda Civic sedan and Toyota Corolla earned the top five-star safety rating from NHTSA. The 2015 Ford Focus and Nissan Sentra have not been rated.
