WHISTLER, British Columbia — The 2015 Lexus NX 200t, a new entry in the growing compact luxury crossover segment, takes dead aim at the Audi Q5, BMW X3 and Volvo XC60.
The 2015 Lexus NX 200t arrives at dealerships in December.
Lexus on Sunday released key details about the NX 200t, which slots in below the 2015 Lexus RX 350 in terms of size and pricing. NX 200t pricing has not been announced, but it is expected to start around $35,000. The base 2015 Lexus RX 350 with front-wheel drive starts at $41,705.
The 2015 Lexus NX debuts in three variations. The NX 200t and NX 200t F Sport both use a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. The NX 300h hybrid uses a 2.5-liter Atkinson-cycle gasoline engine and an electric motor.
The EPA has not posted official fuel-economy numbers on the NX 200t.
This is the first turbocharged engine Lexus has ever sold. The engine delivers 235 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The engine is linked to a new six-speed automatic transmission.
The 2.5-liter engine, a nickel-metal hydride battery pack and electric motors in the hybrid version deliver a total output of 194 horsepower.
The NX 200t F Sport model has the turbocharged engine, along with a sport-tuned suspension, 18-inch wheels and more aggressive styling. It is expected to attract younger buyers to the Lexus showroom.
The new Lexus is available with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.
Other firsts for the NX 200t include a Lexus-first wireless charging tray for compatible phones and devices and a multi-information display with a G-force meter and boost gauge. There's also an optional power-folding 60/40-split rear seat, the brand's first.
The NX 200t also introduces a new exterior color, Eminent White, said to be "brighter than the brightest conventional white." The Lexus NX 200t F Sport gets an exclusive color, Ultrasonic Blue Mica.
LED headlights and taillights are standard on the NX 200t.
There are five interior trim choices on the NX 200t, including the F Sport package that gets metallic trim and black accent strips.
Edmunds says: This new crossover has the potential to become the best-selling vehicle in the Lexus lineup given the popularity of the category.
