WASHINGTON — The 2015 Kia Forte compact sedan earned the top five-star safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The 2015 Forte sedan earned four stars in the front crash test, five stars in the side crash test and four stars in the rollover crash test.

The 2015 Forte is on sale now at Kia dealerships.

"We are extremely proud of the engineering that went into the second-generation Forte, and NHTSA's testing has validated that effort," said Orth Hedrick, Kia Motors America vice president of product planning, in a statement on Monday.

The 2015 Kia Forte hatchback and Kia Forte Koup have not been rated yet by NHTSA.

Standard safety features on the 2015 Forte sedan include six airbags, antilock brakes, electronic stability control, traction control and vehicle stability management.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has not rated the 2015 Kia Forte.

Key competitors to the Forte include the Ford Focus, Honda Civic, Mazda 3 and Toyota Corolla.

Edmunds says: Car shoppers should note that the 2015 Honda Civic sedan and 2015 Mazda 3 sedan also earned the top five-star safety rating from NHTSA. The 2015 Ford Focus and 2015 Toyota Corolla have not been rated.
