Supermodel Christie Brinkley helps to put a new spin on an iconic movie scene in the new commercial and gives the QX60 a boost in the eyes of car shoppers also considering such competitors as the Acura MDX, Audi Q7 and BMW X5.
In the original 1983 movie, Brinkley pulls up in a Ferrari next to the Griswold family, a motley group traveling to the Walley World theme park in a beat-up station wagon. Chevy Chase, who plays Clark Griswold, ogles and flirts with Brinkley as she whizzes by.
In the commercial, actor Ethan Embry — who played Clark Griswold's son, Rusty, in the 1997 sequel Vegas Vacation — is in the driver's seat of the QX60.
A blonde in a Lamborghini catches his eye.
Brinkley, who is in the front passenger seat of the QX60 in the new take on the movie scene, smirks and says: "Honey, a blonde in a convertible? Seriously?"
The commercial coincides with the July 29 remake of the movie.
"We wanted to re-create (the scene) through the lens of a modern-day family in a luxury SUV," said Allyson Witherspoon, Infiniti USA director of marketing communications and media, in a statement. "We knew we might have struck an interesting cultural moment, but having Christie and Ethan involved really elevated the concept given their history with the movie franchise."
The 2015 QX60 is on sale now at Infiniti dealerships.
Edmunds says: Infiniti blends irony and fun in a memorable summer commercial.
