2015 Hyundai Sonata Features the Latest Blue Link Technology

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, California — The second-generation Blue Link telematics system is available on the all-new 2015 Hyundai Sonata.

As with the earlier version, the new Blue Link system is available in three distinct packages, now called Connected Care, Remote and Guidance. The Connected Care package is free for one year and then runs $99 per year. The Remote and Guidance packages each come with a free three-month trial, after which they're priced at $99 per year.

First introduced in 2011, Blue Link integrates emergency assistance, safety features, maintenance reminders and infotainment systems. The latest version, which was announced in conjunction with the redesigned 2015 Hyundai Genesis luxury sedan, is also being offered on the midsize 2015 Sonata, on sale now and priced at $21,960, including an $810 destination charge.

The Blue link in-vehicle car care app is downloadable into the multimedia screens of all 2015 Sonatas equipped with navigation. Along with the Hyundai Assurance Car Care mobile app, it gives owners multiple options for accessing the system's many features, including Hyundai's first on-screen interactive owner's manual.

Connected Care includes such features as Automatic Collision Notification, which sends an automated alert to a response center in the event of a crash; SOS Emergency Assistance, which allows a customer to request help with the push of a button; and automatic diagnostic code notifications, available either by voice or through the dashboard display.

The Connected Care package also includes a monthly vehicle health report, available online or by email, and Service Link, which enables customers to schedule service appointments, request on-demand vehicle diagnostics and receive automatic recall notices through the system.

The Blue Link Remote package allows remote starting and door-lock control via smartphone or a Web site. It also includes a car finder that lets customers locate their vehicles on a map and an alarm notification that informs an owner that the car alarm has been activated.

Emergency features of the Remote package include Panic Notification, which transmits a signal via email or phone when the key fob's panic button is pushed; Stolen Vehicle Recovery, which allows an assistance center to help police locate a vehicle; and additional systems that let law enforcement gradually reduce engine power on a stolen vehicle or immobilize it completely.

Blue Link's Guidance package, powered by Google, facilitates destination searching by voice or through the vehicle's navigation display. Users can also find destinations via a Web site or by mobile app and send them directly to the navigation system.

Edmunds says: Consumers will appreciate the improvements Hyundai has made to its second-generation Blue Link system.
