WASHINGTON The redesigned 2015 Hyundai Sonata midsize sedan earned the top five-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Other standard features include electronic stability control, traction control and antilock brakes. Optional safety equipment includes lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring and forward collision warning.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety said the 2015 Sonata earned the 2014 Top Safety Pick+ award. The Sonata earned "good” ratings in four Institute crash tests and an "acceptable” rating in the small overlap front crash test. The test is designed to replicate what happens when the front corner of a vehicle collides with another vehicle or an object like a tree or utility pole.
