2015 GMC Sierra 1500 Earns Five-Star Safety Rating From Federal Government

WASHINGTON — The 2015 GMC Sierra 1500 pickup truck earned the top five-star safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The 2015 Sierra received five stars in the front and side crash tests and four stars in the rollover crash test.

Specifically, the rating refers to four-wheel-drive and rear-wheel-drive versions of the 2015 Sierra 1500.

The 2015 Sierra 1500 is on sale now at GMC dealers.

Standard safety equipment on the Sierra includes six airbags, electronic stability control, trailer sway control and hill-start assist. A rearview camera is standard on the Sierra SLE, SLT and Denali.

An optional Driver Alert package, which is offered on Sierra Denali, regular cab SLE and double cab/crew cab SLT models includes lane-departure warning, forward-collision alert and the GM safety alert seat.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has not rated the 2015 Sierra 1500.

Key Sierra competitors include the Chevrolet Silverado, Ford F-150 and Ram 1500.

Edmunds says: Car shoppers should note that the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado earned a five-star safety rating from NHTSA, while the 2015 Ram 1500 earned a four-star safety rating. The 2015 Ford F-150 has not been rated.
