WASHINGTON — The 2015 Ford Taurus sedan earned the top five-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The 2015 Taurus received five stars in the front and side crash tests and four stars in the rollover crash test. The rating applies to front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive versions of the car.

The 2015 Taurus is on sale now at Ford dealerships.

Standard safety features on the 2015 Taurus include antilock brakes, electronic stability control and a rearview camera. Taurus SEL adds as standard an ultrasonic reverse sensing system. Taurus Limited and Taurus SHO get Ford's optional lane-keeping system, which notifies drivers if they drift from their lane. This feature is bundled with intuitive active park assist technology.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has not rated the 2015 Taurus.

Key Taurus rivals include the Buick LaCrosse, Chevrolet Impala, Nissan Maxima and Toyota Avalon.

Edmunds says: Car shoppers keeping score should note that the 2015 Buick LaCrosse and 2015 Chevrolet Impala also received the top five-star overall safety rating from NHTSA. The 2015 Nissan Maxima and 2015 Toyota Avalon have not been rated.
