DETROIT — The redesigned 2015 Ford Mustang will be unveiled on December 5 according to several videos posted by the company on its YouTube channel. The videos have since been removed, so it appears to be an inadvertent leak by the automaker.

Official information on the redesigned Ford Mustang has been closely guarded up to this point, although numerous sightings of Mustang prototypes have already provided several details on the car's design.

Key to the Mustang's handling performance will be the use of a fully independent rear suspension. Cost considerations have largely dictated a solid rear axle design up until this point, but Ford's desire to sell the Mustang in markets outside the U.S. has made the more refined independent design a higher priority.

The overall look is still very clearly a Mustang with a traditional long hood/short rear deck configuration. A smaller size was expected, but most prototypes seem to indicate a car of similar proportions to the current car.

Powertrain information is scant at this point. Both V8 and V6 options are sure to be on the table, but Ford's extensive use of turbocharged four-cylinders has prompted considerable speculation on the possibility of such a setup at some point.

Edmunds says: A new rear suspension and a desire to export the Mustang to new markets should make this a unique redesign for Ford's iconic pony car.
