NEW YORK — The 2015 Ford Mustang convertible will be on display on the observation deck of the Empire State Building in New York.

Visitors can check out the car from 8 a.m. to 2 a.m., April 16-17.

The car will be cut up in order to fit into the elevators and then reassembled.

"Taking a car 86 stories above the densely populated streets of midtown Manhattan is no simple task," said Ford in a statement on Tuesday. "No portable crane can reach the 86th floor observatory and the spire towering above the relatively narrow deck makes helicopter delivery impossible. That leaves the elevators as the only viable option."

Ford said it is recreating a Mustang stunt at the iconic New York location that it performed 50 years ago.

Edmunds says: Should be one of the more memorable moments during media preview days at the 2014 New York Auto Show.
