The list is important because it provides car shoppers with a unique benchmark. Instead of given by a single media outlet, they are awarded by a group of automotive journalists from the U.S. and Canada who represent magazines, television, radio, newspapers and Web sites.

Scott Oldham, Edmunds' vice president of editorial and editor in chief, and Erin Riches, Edmunds' deputy editor, are members of the jury.

The awards recognize the most outstanding new vehicles of the year.

Winners will be announced at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show.

The Chevrolet Corvette Stingray and Chevrolet Silverado were the 2014 North American Car and Truck of the Year.

Edmunds says: New-car shoppers get a little taste of what the experts consider to be the best cars and trucks of 2015.
