AUBURN HILLS, Michigan The 707-horsepower 2015 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat, the companion vehicle to the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat, is expected to debut on August 13 at the Woodward Dream Cruise in Michigan.

"The Dodge brand continues its 100th anniversary year celebration with the world premiere of its next ultimate performance vehicle," Chrysler said in a media invitation on Thursday.

The automaker promises that it will "take the cover off a new Dodge vehicle that is sure to stand out significantly in its segment."

Chrysler did not respond immediately to queries from Edmunds asking for confirmation of the debut of the Charger SRT Hellcat at the annual auto event.

Reports of the impending debut of the Charger Hellcat have been circulating for months, following a Fiat Chrysler Automobiles' investor meeting in May and a subsequent Society of Automotive Engineers filing saying that the automaker intends to use the 6.2-liter supercharged Hemi V8 engine in the 2015 Challenger SRT and the 2015 Charger SRT.

At the meeting, Chrysler's powertrain vice president indicated that developing an engine for a single application, like the Challenger SRT Hellcat, would run counter to the company's five-year plan, which includes consolidating powertrains across multiple platforms.

A Charger SRT Hellcat would join a competitive muscle-car segment that includes the Chevrolet SS, Ford Taurus SHO and Hyundai Genesis.

Edmunds says: Chrysler appears poised to claw its way to the center of the media spotlight at the 2014 Woodward Dream Cruise with this highly anticipated addition to the Charger pack.
