DETROIT General Motors is recalling 57,192 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 2500/3500 HD and 2015 GMC Sierra 2500/3500 HD pickup trucks for a clamp problem that could lead to a loss of power-steering fluid, the automaker said.

The recall centers on the proper attachment of power-steering hose clamps to the power-steering pump.

"If the vehicle is driven with the clamp unattached, the hose may disconnect from the pump or gear, causing a rapid loss of power-steering fluid," GM said in a statement on Monday. "This will result in loss of power-steering assist and Hydro Boost-powered brakes without warning.

"The vehicle would revert to manual brakes and manual steering."

GM said it knows of no crashes or injuries linked to the recall.

Chevrolet and GMC dealers will inspect the power-steering hose clamps in two locations to ensure they are properly attached.

"I do not have customer letter mailing information," wrote GM spokesman Alan Adler in response to an Edmunds query.

No information about the recall has been posted on the Web site of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which oversees vehicle recalls in the U.S.

Owners can contact Chevrolet at 1-800-222-1020 or GMC at 1-800-462-8782.

Edmunds says: Since GM has not set a timetable for this recall, owners will have to wait for their official notices. In the meantime, if you are experiencing a problem with your truck, take it into your dealership.
