WASHINGTON The 2015 Chevrolet Malibu midsize sedan earned the top five-star safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The 2015 Malibu received five stars in the front and side crash tests and four stars in the rollover test.

The 2015 Malibu is on sale now at Chevrolet dealerships.

Standard safety equipment includes 10 airbags, electronic stability control, traction control and antilock brakes. OnStar is also standard. Optional safety equipment on Malibu includes blind-zone alert and rear cross-traffic alert.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety awarded the 2014 Malibu a "good" rating, but it has not yet rated the 2015 Malibu.

Key Malibu competitors include the Ford Fusion, Honda Accord, Hyundai Sonata and Toyota Camry.

Edmunds says: Car shoppers should note that the 2015 Ford Fusion, Honda Accord and Hyundai Sonata also earned the top five-star rating from NHTSA. The 2015 Toyota Camry has not been rated.
