WASHINGTON The 2015 Chevrolet Impala full-size sedan earned the top five-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The 2015 Impala is on sale now at Chevrolet dealers.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety awarded the 2014 Impala a "good" rating, but has not yet rated the 2015 Impala.

Standard safety equipment on the 2015 Impala includes 10 standard airbags, electronic stability control, traction control and antilock brakes. Optional safety equipment includes a rearview camera, crash-imminent braking and a lane-departure warning system.

Key competitors to the Impala include the Ford Taurus, Kia Cadenza and Toyota Avalon.

Edmunds says: Car shoppers should note that the 2015 Ford Taurus also earned the highest five-star overall safety rating from NHTSA. The 2015 Kia Cadenza and Toyota Avalon have not been rated.
