WASHINGTON — The 2015 Chevrolet Equinox SUV earned a four-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The Equinox received four stars in the front crash test, five stars in the side crash test and four stars in the rollover crash test. Five stars is the highest rating.

The rating applies to front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive versions of the Equinox.

Standard safety equipment on the 2015 Equinox includes six standard airbags, antilock brakes and electronic stability control. A rearview camera is standard on the 2015 Equinox LTZ and 2LT and optional on 1LT. Forward collision alert, lane departure warning and rear park assist are standard features on LTZ and optional on 2LT.

The 2015 Equinox has not been rated by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

Key competitors to the Equinox include the Ford Escape, Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4.

Edmunds says: Car shoppers should note that the 2015 Ford Escape, Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4 have not been rated yet by NHTSA.
