2015 BMW 4 Series Convertible Recalled To Fix Airbag Problem

WASHINGTON BMW of North America is recalling 2,067 2015 BMW 4 Series Convertibles to fix a problem with the driver's front airbag, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The recall includes the 2015 BMW 428i Convertible, 428i xDrive Convertible, 435i Convertible and 435i xDrive Convertible.

The affected vehicles were built from October 22, 2014 to February 27, 2015.

"Due to a programming error, the driver's front airbag deployment timing may be incorrect," said NHTSA in its recall summary. "If the driver's front airbag deployment timing is incorrect, there is an increased risk of personal injury in the event of a vehicle crash."

BMW told federal safety regulators it is not aware of any accidents or injuries linked to the recall.

BMW dealers will reprogram the airbag control module with a corrected version of the software. The recall is expected to begin in April. Owners can contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

Edmunds says: Affected owners should wait for their official recall notice before scheduling a service appointment. But if you have an immediate concern, it's best to contact your dealer now.
