2015 BMW 4 Series Among Vehicles Recalled for Fuel-Pump Failure

WASHINGTON BMW of North America is recalling 18,054 vehicles, including the 2015 BMW 428i Gran Coupe, because improper nickel plating of components within the fuel pump may result in fuel-pump failure, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The recall also includes the 2014 BMW 228i Coupe, M235i Coupe, BMW 320i, 320xi, 328i, 328xi, 335i, 335xi, ActiveHybrid 3, 328xi Sports Wagon, 428i Coupe, 428xi Coupe, 435i Coupe, 435xi Coupe, 428i Convertible, 428xi Convertible, 435i Convertible, 328xi Gran Turismo and 335xi Gran Turismo.

The 2015 BMW 428xi Gran Coupe and 435i Gran Coupe are also recalled.

"If the fuel pump fails, the vehicle may stall without warning, increasing the risk of a crash," said NHTSA in its recall summary.

BMW told federal safety regulators it is not aware of any accidents or injuries linked to the recall.

BMW dealers will replace the fuel pump. The recall is expected to begin on April 30. Owners can contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

Edmunds says: Owners should wait for their official recall notice before scheduling a service appointment. But if you are experiencing a problem, it's best to contact your dealer now.
