WASHINGTON — American Honda Motor Co. is recalling 39 vehicles because of a fire risk, including certain 2015 Acura MDX two-wheel-drive and MDX four-wheel-drive SUVs, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
A stop-sale order was issued on the affected vehicles in late June.
"The affected vehicles have fuel tanks that were manufactured with insufficient welds which may separate and allow fuel to leak out," NHTSA said in its recall summary. "A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source may result in a fire."
As of May 26, 2016, Honda told federal safety regulators it has received two warranty claims and no reports of injuries or fire losses.
Edmunds says: It's time to schedule a service appointment with your dealer if you own one of these vehicles.
