WASHINGTON — Volkswagen of America is recalling 26,452 vehicles, including the 2014 Jetta, Beetle, Beetle Convertible and Passat because leaking transmission fluid could pose a fire risk, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The affected cars are equipped with a 1.8T engine and torque converter automatic transmission.

"In the affected vehicles, the O-ring seals between the oil cooler and the transmission may leak," said NHTSA in its summary of the problem. "The leaking transmission fluid could contact a hot surface and result in a vehicle fire."

The automaker ordered its U.S. dealers to stop selling the cars on April 8.

No fires, accidents or injuries have been reported, according to Mark Gillies, a Volkswagen spokesman.

Volkswagen dealers will replace the O-ring seals in the transmission oil cooler. The recall began on April 16. Owners can contact Volkswagen at 1-800-822-8987.

Edmunds says: If you own one of these vehicles, it's time to make an appointment with your dealer.
