AUBURN HILLS, Michigan — Production of the $123,080 2014 SRT Viper TA will be limited to 159 units, Chrysler said on Friday.
Pricing includes a $1,995 destination charge and a $2,600 gas-guzzler tax.
The TA — short for Time Attack — will arrive in showrooms later this year.
Production of the 2014 SRT Viper TA has begun at Chrysler's Conner Avenue Assembly Plant in Detroit. Chrysler said the Viper TA will be offered in three limited-edition colors. The automaker will build 93 units in special TA Orange, 33 units in Venom Black and 33 in Bright White.
When the track-oriented Viper debuted at the 2013 New York Auto Show in the spring, Chrysler said the car would debut in the third quarter with production of the special orange model — at the time it was called Crusher Orange — limited to 33 units.
The Viper TA is equipped with the 640-horsepower 8.4-liter V10 engine.
The SRT Viper TA gets a two-mode Bilstein DampTronic suspension system featuring firmer levels of damping and a smaller spread between modes than what is found on the current Viper GTS models. Shock dampers, springs and road racing-derived stabilizer bars have been retuned for optimal on-track performance.
The Viper TA targets high-end versions of the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, including the Corvette Stingray 3LT with the Z51 performance package.
Edmunds says: The Viper TA may be a little late to the party, but that shouldn't bother enthusiasts too much. They'll also be happy that the automaker will build more of the popular orange version than originally expected.
