AUBURN HILLS, Michigan — Chrysler is recalling an estimated 21,470 2014 Ram ProMaster vans to replace the head restraints, the automaker said on Monday. An estimated 18,951 are in the U.S. and 2,519 are in Canada.
"The vehicles were assembled with head restraints that may exceed the allowable gap between an occupant's head and the restraint," said Chrysler in a statement provided to Edmunds.
There are no injuries, accidents or complaints linked to the recall.
"If the vehicle is struck from behind, the head restraint may not properly limit the seat occupant's head movement rearwards, increasing the risk of injury," said the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in its recall summary.
NHTSA noted that the recall affects "all model-year 2014 Ram ProMaster vans manufactured July 1, 2013 to August 26, 2014."
Chrysler said it is "expediting acquisition of replacement parts."
The recall is expected to begin in November. Owners can contact Chrysler at 1-800-853-1403.
Edmunds says: Even though this recall does not begin until next month, it's a good idea to stay in touch with your dealer just in case replacement parts become available sooner than expected.
