AUBURN HILLS, Michigan The fuel-efficient 2014 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel pickup truck is on the way to dealerships, Chrysler announced on Wednesday.

Trucks are expected to arrive at dealerships in the U.S. over the next eight days.

Chrysler posted a YouTube video showing the trucks leaving the Warren Truck Assembly Plant in Michigan.

The automaker said it has been swamped with orders for the truck.

"Even more surprising is the amount of orders already paid for by customers — twice the corporate average of sold customer orders on a truck that customers have yet to test drive," Chrysler said in a statement.

The 2014 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel delivers 20 mpg in city driving and 28 mpg on the highway, according to the EPA.

Ram is first to market with a small-displacement, turbodiesel engine in a half-ton pickup truck. The Ram 1500 EcoDiesel is equipped with a new 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 engine linked to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

In comparison, a 2014 Ram 1500 with a 5.7-liter V8 engine and six-speed automatic transmission delivers 14 mpg in city driving and 20 mpg on the highway, according to the EPA.

All Ram dealerships in the U.S. will offer the diesel version of the Ram 1500.

Edmunds says: Proof positive that the highly anticipated 2014 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel will be in the hands of car buyers shortly.
