WASHINGTON The 2014 Ford Fiesta earned a four-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The 2014 Fiesta received four stars in front and rollover crash tests and two stars in the side-impact crash test.

Five stars is the highest rating.

The 2014 Fiesta models received "good" ratings in all Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Crash tests, but earned a "marginal" rating in the small overlap front crash test. The test is designed to replicate what happens when the front corner of a vehicle collides with another vehicle or an object like a tree or utility pole.

Standard safety features on the Fiesta include seven airbags, including a driver's knee airbag, stability control and antilock brakes.

Competitors to the Fiesta include the 2014 Chevrolet Sonic, Hyundai Accent and Kia Rio.

Edmunds says: Car shoppers will want to note that of the small cars mentioned here, only the 2014 Chevrolet Sonic scored a five-star overall safety rating from NHTSA.
