2014 Ford Escape Earns Four-Star Safety Rating From Federal Government

WASHINGTON The 2014 Ford Escape crossover earned a four-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Five stars is the highest rating.

The 2014 Escape received four stars in front and rollover crash tests and five stars in the side crash test. The ratings apply to 4x2 and 4x4 versions of the Escape.

The 2014 Escape received "good" ratings in all Insurance Institute for Highway Safety crash tests, but earned a "poor" rating in the small overlap front crash test. The test is designed to replicate what happens when the front corner of a vehicle collides with another vehicle or an object like a tree or utility pole.

A new rearview camera is standard on all 2014 Escape models. Other standard safety equipment includes six airbags, including a side curtain airbag. Blind spot mirrors and a Blind Spot Information System with cross-traffic alert are optional.

The 2014 Escape competitors include the Honda CR-V, Hyundai Santa Fe Sport, Kia Sportage and Toyota RAV4.
