WASHINGTON — The 2014 Buick Verano sedan earned a five-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The 2014 Verano earned five stars in front and side impact tests and four stars in the rollover crash test.

The 2014 Verano earned "good" ratings in all Insurance Institute for Highway Safety crash tests.

Forward Collision Alert and Lane Departure Warning are new safety technologies offered on the Verano for the 2014 model year. The Verano also features 10 standard airbags, including knee airbags, electronic stability control and a collapsible pedal system that allows the pedals to detach during a crash to reduce the risk of leg or ankle injuries.

The Verano competes with the Acura ILX, Audi A3 and Lexus CT 200h.
