DETROIT — The 2014 Buick LaCrosse with the optional Ultra Luxury Interior package taps into the Radiant Orchid color trend that has been showing up on everything from lipstick to coffee makers.

The package is optional on LaCrosse Leather, Premium I and Premium II models equipped with the 3.6-liter V6 engine.

The price of the package is $2,495. The 2014 LaCrosse starts at $34,060, including a $925 destination charge. It is at dealerships now.

Buick calls the interior package a blend of "sangria" and "ebony." The GM brand describes "sangria" as an "oscillating and reverberating pink-hued purple."

In effect, it's the same Radiant Orchid that Pantone announced as its Color of the Year for 2014. Pantone describes it as "expressive and creative" and designed to appeal to fashion-minded and tech-savvy buyers in their 20s and 30s.

Radiant Orchid goods are being promoted heavily by retailers. Sephora, the cosmetics giant, is touting its Radiant Orchid Collection, saying the color, which has a warm tone, looks good on most women. HSN is selling toasters and coffee makers in Radiant Orchid.

Buick says the LaCrosse is "the only sedan in its class" featuring the new color palette. The LaCrosse competes with the 2014 Lexus ES 350 and Lincoln MKS, among others.

The LaCrosse interior package is noteworthy because most automakers shy away from anything to do with the color pink.

Pink cars are anomalies, except for those who sell Mary Kay cosmetics.

Of course, there's the exception of the 1955-'56 Dodge La Femme, a customized Dodge Custom Royal Lancer that featured pink paint palette, a standard matching purse with matching lipstick and cigarette cases — along with a standard raincoat, rain bonnet and umbrella in a rosebud pattern.

Edmunds says: You can now coordinate the cabin of your 2014 Buick LaCrosse with your hot new shade of lipstick — yet another striking example of just how much the GM brand is moving out of its stodgy old ways.
