2014-'15 Mini Cooper Hardtop Recalled for Incorrect Label

WASHINGTON BMW of North America is recalling 13,130 2014-'15 Mini Cooper Hardtop two-door vehicles because of a label that has the incorrect weight on the tire information placard, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

"The maximum weight listed on the label is incorrect (too low) and therefore does not comply with federal regulations," said NHTSA in its recall summary.

BMW told federal safety regulators it has not received any reports of problems linked to the recall and is not aware of any accidents or injuries.

The incorrect labeling was discovered during a BMW engineering evaluation on the Mini Cooper Hardtop.

This is a "noncompliance" recall as opposed to one that covers a safety defect.

Mini dealers will replace the incorrect labels with corrected ones. The recall begins on March 13. Owners can contact Mini customer service at 1-866-825-1525.

Edmunds says: Mini will notify owners about this recall. Your dealer service manager will be happy to correct the problem once the new labels arrive.
